Spring is here!

Can you believe it??!! I still have a cold! It has been over two weeks now! I think it is because I am not around children as much therefore my immune system is down! Needless to say it is frustrating! I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow to get my shots for India so hopefully he will cure my cold!

I had a pretty busy weekend. Yesterday I attended a birthday luncheon for one of my hiking friends. It was held at the Bisbee Repertoire, which is normally used for dinner theatres. They also serve lunch (great food) and have music provided by interns from music colleges. It was really lovely.

Next Michel and I went to Sierra Vista to cheer on the college at the rodeo. The whole rodeo scene is still very bizarre to me but I did sort of enjoy it. Afterwards we went for a pizza and a movie ("Because I Said So"... which I found really funny!)

This morning on the way back from the cafeteria (no we don't always eat there but brunch on the weekends we do)I noticed the cherry blossoms on the trees. Spring is here!! The weather has been really strange the past week, which might also contribute to my cold. One day it is 26C the next day 15C and so on. My hiking buddies are beginning to plant their vegetable and flower gardens so I guess that is another sign that spring is really here.

For all you knitting fans out there.. I finished another pair of socks and finally one that I really struggled with and affectionately call the "sock from hell" (the purple one). I have started ordering yarn online (dangerous habit) and can't wait to start what just arrived this week. It is hand painted yarn and the colors are delicious! They remind me of watermelon.

We have been having the most spectacular sunsets. Most nights I am too slow to get my camera in time....but here is an attempt. I will keep trying!

My plans for today are to do a bit of knitting and a bit of scrapbooking. Tonight is the Oscar Night and of course my absolute favorite... "The Amazing Race!"

I love my slippers!

Ok.. I know you are all hanging by the edge of your seat.. or computer to see how my "ginormous" slippers turned out... so voila:

They are still drying so I can't actually wear them yet. They were so fun to make and felting them was kind of neat too! They are going to be nice and cozy! Guess what everyone in my family is getting for Christmas!!?? Ha ha!

Michel and I went to the Chocolate Tasting event in Bisbee Saturday night. It was really quite nice... lots of chocolate. I was a bit nervous to taste some due to my allergy to alcohol as you never know when people might put liqueur in their desserts! Michel was pleased as it meant more for him. He also got to meet my hiking group. They were beginning to think he was a ghost! As if I would stick around here for a ghost!!! Please!

The last few days have been spent trying to find a cheap flight to India for my Girl Guide trip this summer. Mission accomplished and we plan to book sometime today! It is almost official... we fly to London on June 10 and then to India on June 13 and back home on June 30! Our pit stop in London is because I just love that city and we are going to see the musical "Wicked"! I have an appointment for my shots later this month... the not so fun thing about exotic travel.

Slippers for a Giant

I am still not feeling well... although I sound worse than I actually feel. I barely have a voice! I spent last night and today working on a pair of slippers. The technique is called felting! You knit the object big, wash it, and then it mats like felt and becomes much smaller! Here are a couple of pictures of my first slipper:

Michel just can't believe that these slippers will "shrink" and fit me... he has decided that it makes a great French beret!

I'll post the finished project later.. it takes time as you need to wash them several times.

It is beautiful out again today.. but hey it is Arizona! I am resting comfortably on the couch so that I can attend tonight's big chocolate festival...mmmmm.... chocolate!

I'm still here!

It seems like awhile since I last post. I have been keeping fairly busy. I have joined a sock knitting group that meets on Wednesday mornings (one advantage of not working)! They are a great group of ladies and were a big help with what I call the sock from hell. I started and restarted this sock 5 times but am finally on my way. This sock is a little more challenging than what I am used to but figure now is the time to broaden my knitting talent! The group meets in Sierra Vista so I head there after my morning walk in Bisbee. Needless to say,I have quite a few knitting projects on the go; several socks and slippers too!

I seem to have caught a cold/sore throat. It is an odd feeling to have a cold when it is so warm/hot out. It has been gorgeous all week in the high 70's with one day reaching 80! That is the Arizona we all know and love!

I hope to do some scrapbooking this weekend... my apologizes to Bev for not posting... I just did not feel like working on anything.

Tonight I have rented "Little Miss SunShine" to watch while knitting and tomorrow Michel and I have tickets to attend a chocolate tasting festival in support of the children's section of the library... I hope I am well enough to go. I am sure chocolate can cure a cold!
Have a great weekend!
